From Muay Thai to massages…Bristol Thai-Fest has it all

This event is perhaps not as famous at the excellent Bristol Harbour Festival, but it is just as good and occurring nearly in the same spot, the weekend after. We guarantee it’s worth taking a look.

21 Jul 2015 / Bristol

The Thai fest promotes the understanding of the incredible Thai culture amongst the people of Bristol. It will take place at the emblematic Queen Square, starting today around 5:00pm and concluding on Sunday.

For £5 per day, you’ll get to witness authentic, traditional Thai music, and dance. There will also be Muay Thai boxing at an impressive level and relaxing (yet vigorously effective) Thai massages.

But that’s not all, party Thai style in the beer garden, the famous full moon, wedding ceremony, and a costume competition that will blow out your retinas from the brightness of the colours.

And don’t forget to have a taste of freshly cooked, scrumptious Thai food, including grilled skewered pork, spicy Thai beef salad, curry or sticky rice with mango.

But we know that Thai cuisine is generally hot and spicy and may not suit some Western palates.

We therefore did a little locating of the area’s best restaurants, which are smoking-friendly:

The small bar prides itself of having some of Bristol’s finest beers, a unique selection of wine and spirits and…a bearded staff. Get together with fellow beer worshippers.

Hole in the Wall

Pop in for a pint and they'll tell you a few tales about this pub, which is named after a spy hole that enabled 18th century sailors and smugglers to keep watch for customs men. But nowadays, the only drama story you’ll get is from tasting their top notch comfort food, especially the Sunday brunch.

Situated on the dockside, Riverstation serves a variety of modern European and Mediterranean dishes made using local and seasonal ingredients. There is an à la carte restaurant upstairs and a deli style diner on deck one.

So channel your inner Jetsetter and enjoy a cocktail from the terrace.

The River Grille

Vegetarians please abstain. Set in a lofty, conservatory-style space, with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the harbour, the River Grille Restaurant is renowned in Bristol for spectacular steaks and perfectly cooked fish. With daily market specials, local delicacies and even foraged ingredients, it’s a menu full of bold and robust flavours cooked with a lightness of touch.

A simple glance at this fancy restaurant is enough to see why it’s always wise to book a table.

Graze Bar and Chophouse

Graze Bar & Chophouse has a fresh and sophisticated take on the traditional British pub and combines superb ales, wines and spirits with a clever menu of quality British and European dishes.

Inspired by the Yankee bars and chophouses, the interior of Graze boasts high quality furniture, creative lighting schemes and some quirky designs. Informal yet stylish, Graze serves Bath Ales beers along with an eclectic range of continental beers, premium spirits, interesting wines and soft drinks.

Try it out whether night or day, for a light salad or a hearty meal.
